Last week, we talked about kicking off your new job search for 2016. And in November 2015, we gave you some tips on getting prepared to network for your new job. This week, we would like to give you some ideas on the many networking opportunities happening around Kansas City, so you can really get your job search into high gear. The good news is, there is certainly no shortage of networking events in Kansas City! Here are just a few resources as you begin your search:
Professional Networking Meetups: Haven’t tried a Meetup yet? This is a great, grass-roots way to meet other like-minded people. KC-area Meetups have groups for all areas of interest, including tons of networking opportunities that are based on criteria including your area of expertise, geographic location, etc.
KC Chamber of Commerce: Well known around town for its many networking opportunities, the KC Chamber hosts Morning Schmooze, GenKC, and more. It’s worth it to check their calendar on a regular basis to see what upcoming events are happening. We would also suggest exploring your suburban chamber of commerce, or that of a neighboring suburb. I know the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce hosts a regular “Wake Up Wednesday” event, and the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce has a women’s only networking group that meets quarterly. And those are just two of the several chambers of commerce in our metro area.
Network After Work: This group typically holds more casual happy hour networking events. A great chance to put yourself in the mix and get to know new people.
Kansas City Networking Group: They work to create connections between businesses and people through networking and educational opportunities.
Kansas City Young Professionals Networking Society: This is a networking society for the “young and young-at-heart in Kansas City.” They host regular happy hours and other networking events.
Or make it easy on yourself and keep up-to-date via the Kansas City Networking Facebook page, which tracks various networking events happening in the KC Metro area.
And, like we said in our November blog, networking isn’t for everyone. Remember that SquadBuilders’ expertise in networking is one of the reasons we continue to expand so rapidly.
