Skilled Healthcare Job Opportunities Continue to Rise in Kansas City

A few weeks ago, I talked about many of the things that make Kansas City so great in Kansas City: A hidden gem we’re proud to call home. Trust me, if you ask anyone around here about their favorite KC BBQ, and you’ll have a good debate going about which one is best in just a few minutes!

While we love our BBQ, Kansas City offers so much more than good food, great people, and fun things to do. One of our greatest strengths is a long-term plan under development to further strengthen our region’s economic development, which will result in more skilled job opportunities in our city.

The great news for our employees, according to a recent article in the Kansas City Business Journal, healthcare workers – including nursing and home health aides, and healthcare IT – are high on the list of the  fastest-growing occupations in the Kansas City area. And each of these job categories offer hundreds of open positions in Kansas City.

Even better news is the fact that our city is looking at ways to continue growing the Kansas City region’s economic growth, and, more important, mapping out ways to grow a highly-skilled workforce to take on those positions. This initiative is being led by a group called KC Rising.

KC Rising wants to “fully realize Kansas City’s economic potential by targeting high growth in trade, people and ideas.” Something we like to hear at SquadBuilders.

The time is right: There is really no better time to connect with us at SquadBuilders. Whether you are a job seeker, looking to enhance your healthcare IT or nursing career, or an employer seeking highly qualified staff, SquadBuilders can create the right fit for you or your organization.

Happy National Nurses Week from SquadBuilders!

This National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2017, we are more than happy to have the opportunity to talk about what makes nurses so special.

Here are the SquadBuilders Top 10 Reasons Why Nurses are Amazing:

1.       Compassion: Nurses go beyond the medicine, providing comfort and care for patients in need of a friendly smile or a little extra attention.

2.        Teamwork: No one beats nurses when it comes to being a team player. Nurses are adept at working with an ever-changing team throughout their work shift.

3.       Humor: Nurses often bring their sense of humor to the job to lighten a difficult moment, or just make a patient smile during the day.

4.       Passion: Nursing is a labor of love by people who are passionate about what they do. These caretakers work long hours, sometimes with patients who don’t always want to cooperate. Yet they remain upbeat and ready to go each day…we love their passion and commitment!

5.       Positive attitude: Nurses bring a positive attitude to celebrate the good moments and get patients through the bad ones.

6.       Physical endurance: Nursing is a physically demanding job. Whether successfully giving a shot to a wriggling child or helping mobilize an elderly patient, nurses just keep going!

7.       Emotional strength: Nurses work with vulnerable patients all the time. Yet they come to work each day fortified with incredible coping skills, which they often share with their patients.

8.       Adaptability: One of the things many of our nurses enjoy about their career path is the flexible work hours and work environments available to them. We don’t know if there is any correlation, but we have noticed that nurses are versatile, adaptable, and simply “make it work,” in any situation.

9.       Cool, Calm and Collected: Nurses are well trained, and know what to do in any emergency situation.

10.   Trust: Above all, nurses make patients feel special by connecting with them and going above and beyond the call of duty to establish a trusting relationship. Time and time again, we’ve heard stories about our nurses going the extra mile – celebrating a patient’s birthday in the hospital, or responding quickly to an anxious parent who is worried about a sick child.

Thanks to all of our incredible nurses for all you do!

Kansas City: A hidden gem we're proud to call home!

Time and time again, we hear it from people who relocate to Kansas City: it’s a hidden gem. Wherever they hail from, they always express surprise at what a fantastic city we have right here in the Heartland, and rave about our great cost of living, good climate and friendly people.

When you look at it closely, Kansas City is small enough to make getting places a breeze and keep the traffic light, but large enough to offer something for everyone. We have fabulous dining and shopping, music and theater, sports, nightlife and tons of attractions. Whether you’ve lived here your entire life, or are a recent transplant, the KC metro area is packed with tons of things to entertain and expand your horizons.

A few of our favorite things in KC…

The food: It’s no secret that we are proud of our BBQ! Hometown favorites include Jack Stack, LC’s, Gates, Q39, Arthur Bryant’s and Joe’s. It’s not just about the secret sauce though…the atmosphere makes each restaurant unique, and there are literally hundreds of BBQ restaurants to enjoy.

Things to Do: KC has tons of professional, semi-pro and college sports to offer. We kick off spring each year with March Madness when the NCAA Tournament comes to town. Not to mention KC Royals baseball, KC Chiefs football, Sporting KC soccer, and Mavericks hockey. Venues like Sprint Center and the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts attract world-class entertainment, while the KC Zoo, Worlds of Fun  and many other attractions provide great family entertainment. Not to mention acres and acres of beautiful parks across the metro area.

The people: If we’re really honest, it’s the people who truly make our city great. With our welcoming nature, balanced lifestyle, and our Midwestern work ethic to continue building upon what we already have here, KC is one great place to live!

We could go on and on about the many great things KC has to offer. Instead, we’ll let you read this great Huffington Post article, “5 Reasons to Fall in Love with Kansas City,” and see the many things that make this a fantastic, livable, workable city. Or go to visitkc.com to learn more about what’s happening in KC right now!

SquadBuilders recognized by Ingram's Magazine

The SquadBuilders team was thrilled when, earlier this year, our company was ranked among Kansas City’s top 25 staffing agencies by Ingram’s Magazine (February 2017 Issue)! We thank the Ingram’s consultants, who have so much confidence in the quality of the work we do.

Moreover, we want to thank our exceptional staff, as well as our incredible network of employees and employers, who are our trusted partners, day in and day out.

We have always based our work on the premise that strong partnerships equal success. We give our pledge to continue to uphold the cornerstone of our business: mutually beneficial, trusting relationships with employees and employers to match high quality candidates with the right healthcare organization.

To our employees: There’s truly no better time to connect, or re-connect with SquadBuilders – whether to place yourself or to refer a great candidate. According to Ingram’s, unemployment is at its lowest levels in KC in more than a decade, making this a great time to create the career of your dreams. We have an incredible new referral program that benefits employees who make referrals, and new SquadBuilders employees (receive a one-time signing bonus as a new employee!). We’ll help you cut through the clutter of open positions to find the right fit for you. Don’t just take our word for it, see what our employees have to say!

To our employers: With more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare staffing field, we know what it takes to build strong partnerships. Partnerships are at the heart of everything we do: We are here for our employer-partners for the long haul, working with you to ensure we can consistently meet (or better yet, exceed) your expectations. We are so proud of our dedicated team, and will continue to work hard to develop the best talent to meet your staffing needs.

Once again, thanks to each of you for your continued trust in SquadBuilders. We simply couldn’t do it without you!  #JoinTheSquad

1.  What drew you to SquadBuilders?

Everyone I talked to was super helpful. SquadBuilders has been amazing in the fact that they found a contract that was exactly what I did before and knew I enjoyed immensely.  My husband told me that when I had that earlier job I was the happiest he has ever seen me.  The fact that when a contract opportunity came up and they thought of me first means that these people care and are actually invested in me and not just my skills.

2. What do you like most about working with SquadBuilders?

The people that I work with drew me in and keeps me excited about my position.  That includes SquadBuilders staff as well as the client staff!  I know that if I have any issue, they have been and will be there to fix it as quickly as possible and this includes weekends.  One time, I had a question about something on a Friday evening at 8 pm and my account representative answered me within 10 minutes even though he should have been enjoying his weekend.  He went above and beyond to make sure I felt happy and comfortable with my service from SquadBuilders.

3. What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my husband, dog and family!  I am so lucky to have the best support system to allow me to travel and keep my home life in order.  I love to spend time over at my family’s house as well and going out adventuring with my husband.  We enjoy trying new places we have never been which includes restaurants and places we have not tried.  I am a foodie and I have certain friends that cook together and try to tackle new recipes as well as making sure our manicures and pedicures stay unique.

4. What is your favorite part of working in Healthcare IT?

My favorite part of Healthcare IT is that it is different everyday.  When I come into work I have no idea what will happen.  I could have a physician call me and there is a patient care issue I have to take care or I could have a nurse and/or physician call/email me that they would “love to implement this."  I love the spontaneity of the job!  This is how I am able to help patients that come to the hospital get the most excellent care.

5. What is your favorite quote?

"Git-R-Done!"

SquadBuilders Celebrates Small Businesses

This Wednesday, March 29 was a great day to celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owner Day!

It comes around every year on March 29, and we couldn’t let it go by without a shout out to the 28 million small businesses in the U.S. Another impressive fact: According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, these small businesses (of which SquadBuilders is a proud member) employ 55% of the U.S. workforce.

From our perspective, running a small business offers three major benefits to our clients:

1.      Teamwork: Our team works closely together to ensure our clients get the most out of the resources we offer. We review our clients’ needs as a cross-functional team to develop the best action plan possible for any scenario.

2.      Strong Relationships: Our team is in constant communication with each other, and our clients. We don’t focus solely on building relationships with our clients; we put great importance on internal team-building activities to ensure excellence in teamwork. In fact, we are all looking forward to a great day of team-building at Tick Tock Escape Games later today. It is a true partnership at SquadBuilders, fostered by an environment of mutual respect for one another.

3.      Flexibility: A small business is more nimble and is better able to keep up with a rapidly changing work environment. As the needs of our clients have evolved over the years, so has our business. We remain in close contact with clients to ensure needs – and expectations – continue to be met or exceeded. This is how we’ve remained in business for more than 25 years!

As a small family business that is now in its third generation of ownership, SquadBuilders is proud to celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owner Day!
